“The attitude towards collecting old furniture can differ from person to person, but, broadly speaking, there are two types of collectors: those for whom collecting is a passion and those who collect because it is fashionable to do so; they must, anyhow, furnish their homes. The first type is, of course, the true collector; he will replace a specimen by a better specimen, irrespective of its size or whether he has room for it; he is indefatigable in his pursuit of find quality examples and he never stops studying the subject. Percival Griffiths was such a collector.”
- Symonds, Robert W.
Furniture Making in Seventeenth and Eighteenth Century England: An Outline for Collectors. 1955, p. 19.
Dr. William DeGregorio and I recently completed our two-volume work on the Percival D. Griffiths collection. It is published by Yale University Press and is available from their website, and also on ALibris.com, Abebooks.com and Amazon..
Shown below is a selection of pieces from the Griffiths collection, which will all be among more than 600 pieces featured in the two volumes.
