Late 19th, or early 20th-century, walking stick. The head presents a well carved bird clasping a ball in its beak. The shaft is carved with several motifs: a spiral twist above a band of knots, running bead-like motif, another band of knots and interlaced bands of simulated rattan. The ferrule a plain wooden tip.

A fashionable walking stick was all but a required decorative accessory for the proper gentleman in the 19th-century.  This example, with a carved animal head, is typical of these decorative sticks. Collectors of these are called Rabologists.
