My long-time Roman friend. Wax modeling was an art throughout Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries. There were some incredible and amazing works created. Among the best modellers was Caspar Hardy who created a series of vignettes and shadow boxes and small dioramas; some depicted gentry & nobles, but other people from everyday walks of life. It is unusual to see a full bust like this and also, as one can imagine, most unusual to find one intact. The cracks you see are more age cracks than not, as it has not been broken and repaired. There are some small bits here and there that have been re-attached, but it is by and large whole and intact. A most unusual find.
